OPPO A7
Leaked OPPO A7 posters reveal colors & confirm battery capacity
The OPPO A7 is expected to launch on the 13th of November. While we wait for an official confirmation from OPPO, more leaks keep surfacing. The latest is a set of official posters that confirms some of the phone’s features.
The posters show the phone in full glory. The display has a water-drop notch and there are dual cameras on the rear. If there was ever a OnePlus 6T mini/lite, there is a high chance it would look like this.
One of the posters reveals the phone will come in Glaring Gold and Glaze Blue color variants while the other confirms it will have a waterdrop screen and pack a 4,230mAh battery.
The specs of the OPPO A7 show that the device is a rebranded Realme 2 that is sold in India. The A7 has a 6.2-inch HD+ screen, a Snapdragon 450 processor, 3GB/4GB of RAM and 32GB/64GB of storage.
Housed inside the notch is a 16MP camera and on the rear is a 13MP + 2MP dual camera setup. There is also a fingerprint scanner on the back of the phone. The OPPO A7 will run Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box.

OPPO R17 Neo with in-screen fingerprint scanner launched in Japan
The OPPO R17 Neo is the newest from the Chinese manufacturer. Instead of China, the first country to receive it is Japan. In fact, the R17 Pro is Japan’s first ever phone to feature an in-display fingerprint scanner.
In terms of specs, the newly announced OPPO R17 Neo is quite similar to the recently unveiled OPPO K1 and OPPO R15X smartphones that are nothing but toned-down version of the OPPO R17 smartphone. The smartphone looks marvelous thanks to its Blue and Red color gradient appeal.

The OPPO R17 Neo features a 6.41-inch AMOLED screen with a waterdrop notch. It carries support FHD+ resolution and 19.5:9 aspect ratio. Like the OPPO K1 and R15X, the newly announced R17 Neo also features an in-display fingerprint scanner.
The Snapdragon 660 chipset and 4 GB of RAM are present under the hood of the device. The handset includes 3,600mAh battery. When it comes to storage, it offers an internal storage of 128 GB. There is a microSD card slot for additional storage.
The back panel of the phone is equipped with a horizontally aligned 16-megapixel + 2-megapixel dual camera setup. A 25-megapixel selfie shooter is available inside the notch of the smartphone. The phone is loaded with ColorOS 5.2 flavored Android 8.1 Oreo.
The OPPO R17 Neo is priced at JPY 38,988 (~$345). Users can also purchase it on contract by paying JPY 3,218 (~$28) a month. There is no confirmation on the availability of the R17 Neo outside of Japan.

Oppo attains 5G connectivity support with a customised version of Oppo R15
It’s been a year since the OEMs have started pushing the 5G compatibility tests. Now, Oppo has got a success in getting support for 5G connectivity. Today, Oppo Global Vice President and President of China Business Department, Brain Shen took to Weibo to announce the latest development. The new Oppo’s development of 5G compatibility has laid a foundation stone for the 5G smartphone’s commercial availability by next year.
Oppo conducted the successful test at Oppo Reasearch Institue in China. Oppo VP, Brain further detailed that Oppo customized R15 smartphone with a compatible 5G hardware. In the lab testing environment, Oppo connected it with the 5G components such as Systemboard, RF, RFFE, and antenna which led to a live 5G connectivity on the mobile device. Even a “5G” logo also appeared in the top right corner of the screen.
Oppo has already joined hands with Qualcomm under the banner of “5G Pilot” program at recent Beijing 2018 Qualcomm China Technology and Cooperation Summit. Oppo VP added that they want to be a key contributor in providing and complying with the 5G standard. in the past, they can also be seen promoting the 5G product development and commercialization. Oppo wants to become world’s first manufacturer to become the first brand to commercially launch the 5G smartphone as soon as possible.
Although, Oppo started researching and developing on the 5G technology in 2015. It catered to the overall research of 5G standard development and explored the features of 5G compatible smartphones. The claims are even verified by International Standards organization 3GPP which states that Oppo is the highest ranked company in submitting 5G related documents.
Earlier this year, Oppo also tested the first 5G video call using 3D structured light technology. It is the successful implementation of 3D vision technology that Oppo has developed. Oppo’s research center director, Henry Tang also talked about the 3D vision in his latest speech of “Ubiquitous Reality – When 5G Meets 3D Vision”.
It is a milestone and a great success for Oppo. Now, we hope Oppo to bring the 5G compatible devices earlier next year.

Qualcomm reveals Xiaomi, HMD, OnePlus, OPPO, Vivo are among its ‘committed’ 5G partners for 2019
Qualcomm unveiled the Snapdragon 675 chipset on Monday in China and Sweden with its focus being on enabling outstanding gaming experiences, advanced AI capabilities, and “cutting-edge” camera performance. During the event, the U.S chipmaker delved into the trending topic of 5G connectivity. Qualcomm announced a number of breakthroughs it had achieved on the next-generation 5G technology.
Most of the things disclosed are technical and rather vague but the bottom line is that they will help pave the way for the arrival of the world’s first commercially available 5G mobile devices next year. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X50 modem which will power the 5G technology will be on a number of phones from major OEMs including the OnePlus 7. Qualcomm released a list o 19 OEMs who it says are already committed to its 5G vision for 2019. The list contains popular brands such as ASUS, Xiaomi, OnePlus, OPPO, Vivo, HMD, HTC, Sony, Sharp, LG and Motorola. Others include Fujitsu, computer networking firm Netgear, wireless communications equipment maker Sierra and a couple of names that don’t sound familiar as far as mobile phones are concerned. It is possible Qualcomm is collaborating with these companies to speed up the rollout of the 5G infrastructure on carrier networks.
A number of the listed smartphone makers have already confirmed they will launch a 5G-capable phone next year but we can’t say who will be the first. Other firms such as Huawei and Samsung and perhaps Apple are likely also working on the emerging technology.
